“June 1864,” bird-weather-sound-way. In June, just over 100 different bird species inhabit Amherst, Massachusetts, and the surrounding Valley. While the dawn choruses that arose in May reached a pitch at the summer solstice, when the earth attains its most extreme tilt toward the sun to give us the longest day of the year, the birdscape of the later part of June, though full, is quieter.

Full description

In this track, we hear the sounds of birds singing, nesting, and foraging. At the end of the track, the sound of an axe breaks into the woods, raising alarm calls among the birds.

In addition to sounds we collected ourselves, this track was inspired and/or composed using parts of the following audio files first published on XenoCanto.org, all of which are associated with a Creative Commons BY-NC-SA 4.0 license, unless otherwise noted. Our composition involved the excerpting, remixing, and transformation of the original files. We are deeply grateful to the recordists for sharing their work, but we alone bear responsibility for all changes to their original files.
